Hi there! I’m Clara Mello, a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in journalism (in the Hussman School of Media and Journalism) with minors in art history and data science. I am from São Paulo, Brazil, but I have moved around quite a bit due to my mom’s job (and her desire to travel the world). I’m an only child, so naturally my parents and dog are my best friends. I come from a huge family, where a fifth cousin is as important as an aunt, so I have always prioritized family in my life. Aside from that, my friends are very important to me, and keeping in touch with those who are all over the globe, is one of my main priorities. As for hobbies, I have loved the arts for as long as I can remember. I started theatre in preschool, which I was involved in until my graduation in May ’21. I also love the visual arts, which I took an interest to in high school; I was the illustrator for the newspaper, which led me to my interest in journalism. My dad is a graphic designer, but has worked with environmental reporting and documenting, so I have been exposed to the field ever since I was little; I have always known I wanted to pursue a career in something creative (even if Grey’s Anatomy convinced me I wanted to be a doctor for a little while).
